The Tory Prompt Library: What Smart Shop Owners Are Asking Their Inventory
Every best seller that runs out costs you sales you’d already earned. And every product priced below your target margin earns less than you think. Knowing what to look for isn’t the hard part. Finding 20 minutes to dig through reports while you’re running the shop is.
Â
Tory is the AI assistant built into Thrive Inventory. Ask it a question, and it answers from your own shop data, so you can spot those problems before they cost you.
Â
Below are the prompts we’d start with, grouped by the jobs you already do every week. Copy them as they are, or swap in your own product names, vendors, and locations.
Starter AI Prompts for Your Inventory
If you’re new to Tory, start with these six. Each one gives you a quick read on a different part of your shop.
Â
- Run a pricing health check.
- What’s my weekly performance summary?
- What products do I need to reorder this week?
- What’s my slow-moving inventory worth?
- Which products have a profit margin below 50%?
- Show me how to fix sync issues across all my sales channels.
Begin Your Week
Monday morning, before the orders start rolling in. Get a quick read on how last week went and what’s pulling its weight.
Â
- What’s my weekly performance summary?
- What are my top-selling products this month?
- What are my best-performing categories this week?
- Which location sells the most [product name]?
Power Up
Ask for your weekly performance summary every Monday for a month. You’ll learn what a normal week looks like and spot the ones that aren’t. Once you know what’s pulling its weight, use it to optimize your product assortment.
Stay Stocked
Running out of a best seller on a busy weekend costs you the sale, and sometimes the customer. Catch low stock while there’s still time to reorder.
- What items are low in stock?
- What items are out of stock at [location]?
- What products do I need to reorder this week?
- When do I need to reorder [product name or SKU] by?
- When will [product] run out of stock based on current sales?
- Show me reorder suggestions for [vendor name].
Power Up
Pick your top three sellers and ask Tory when you need to reorder each one. Put those dates on your calendar, then set min/max reorder levels so you’re not guessing next time.
Keep Orders On Track
Vendor delays happen. Know what’s late before your shelves feel it.
Â
- Show me my open purchase orders.
- Show me overdue purchase orders.
- Are there any overdue stock transfers?
- What’s the contact info for [vendor name]?
Power Up
Check for overdue orders before you place your next order with that vendor. If the same vendor keeps running late, use these vendor management tips to decide what to do next.
Protect Your Margins
Margins usually leak somewhere quiet, like a product with no cost entered or a price that didn’t keep up with your vendor’s last increase.
- Run a pricing health check.
- Which products have a margin below [X]%?
- Which variants are missing a cost?
- What’s my slow-moving inventory worth?
- Which variants haven’t sold in the last 90 days?
- Who are my vendors and how much have I spent with each?
Power Up
Ask which variants are missing a cost and fix those first. Every margin number Tory gives you depends on them. Once you know what your slow movers are worth, try these ways to profit from excess inventory.
Keep Your Catalog Clean
Duplicate names and missing vendors make everything harder, from reordering to reporting. Find the gaps before they trip up your next reorder.
Â
- Do I have any duplicate item names?
- Which variants don’t have a vendor assigned?
- What categories do I have and how many items are in each?
- Help me write a product description for [product name or SKU].
- Which bundles use [product name] as a component?
- What does it cost to assemble [bundle name]?
Power Up
Once your catalog is clean, use it to build better bundles with our guide to product bundling.
Make Sure Your Sales Channels In Sync
If you sell online and in store, a sync problem can mean selling something you don’t have. Check these before a big weekend or a promotion.
Â
- Show me sync issues across all my sales channels.
- Are there any sync issues with my e-commerce sales channel?
- Which variants aren’t syncing to my POS?
- Which variants are missing images on [sales channel]?
Power Up
Ask how to fix sync issues the day before any sale or email blast goes out. For more on keeping every channel running smoothly, read our guide to multichannel selling.
Count With Confidence
If you sell online and in store, a sync problem can mean selling something you don’t have. Check these before a big weekend or a promotion.
Â
- Show me sync issues across all my sales channels.
- Are there any sync issues with my e-commerce sales channel?
- Which variants aren’t syncing to my POS?
- Which variants are missing images on [sales channel]?
Power Up
Ask which variants haven’t been counted in 90 days, and start your next stock count there.
Get Better Answers From Tory
A few habits make Tory’s answers sharper:
Â
- Name names: Use the product, SKU, vendor, or location.
- Add a timeframe: “This week,” “the last 30 days,” and “before Black Friday” all work.
- Ask a follow-up: If an answer raises a question, ask it: “Which of those are my top sellers?”
- Use your own numbers: Swap 50% for the margin you actually aim for.
